How to make an effective video testimonial

When a client of yours has an amazing experience with you, it seems like a given to ask them to leave you a review. A testimonial works well to bring the start-to-finish to a focal point. It enables you to display not only whether the service or product has met expectations, but also the evolution of how your product or service has had an impact on their life.

Video Testimonial

A video testimonial is common on websites these days. They’re almost always effective and often a centerpiece to a landing page or homepage. If you decide you have a former client that you “totally crushed it” for, this could be the time to invite them to do a video testimonial. The means of making the video could vary greatly — from using the video capabilities of a smartphone to hiring a local video production company. But the flow and content of the video should remain the same.

Like most videos in general, your testimonial video should include a definitive intro and outro. Many don’t hold a customer’s attention beyond 90 seconds unless it is a well-produced, vividly interesting how-to video.

What does a meaningful testimonial look like?

In the case of some of the most powerful and meaningful testimonial videos we’ve put together, you’ll have a flow that looks like the following:

  • An introduction to your company in the form of signage, logo, storefront, and scope of the interior and personnel.
  • An introduction to the client delivering the testimonial: “Hello my name is Mr./Mrs. Incognito,” followed by a bit about them and perhaps their perception of life and their daily business prior to engaging with your company.

At this point, it’s important for the client to summarize the issue they had and how your company resolved it for them. From there, it’s great to have the client express that they feel other people could benefit from your product/service and, further, how their perception of your product/service has positively changed. If they worked with another company in the past with a similar product/service, they might mention how it doesn’t compare.

Value of a Testimonial Video

A solid video testimonial can go a long way. When featured as the focus of a page on a website or a marketing campaign for your business, they can be more impactful than anything written by your company or any commercial you may have produced in the past.
